3 Tips for Longer Lasting Extensions
Have you been thinking about getting hair extensions or maybe you just got them…
We want to share these 3 Tips to Care for Your Extensions, these tips will be good to know if you are thinking of getting them or even have hair extensions already!
There is no doubt that hair extensions naturally enhance your hairstyle by adding volume, length, and an overall fantastic look. But beauty doesn’t come without cost. Hair extensions are an investment, but these three tips can ensure longevity while avoiding matted ends and damage.
1. Wash Your Extensions Correctly
The general rule of thumb regarding hair extensions is that the less washing, the longer they last. It’s important to remember when washing your extensions to be gentle and avoid harsh scrubbing. We all love a good head massage, but be a little softer when it comes to extensions! And be sure you use sulfate and alcohol-free shampoo and conditioner when washing your hair. If you tend to use more products, then we recommend doing a wash a couple of times a week at most.
2. Avoid Excessive Use of Products
One of the most important aspects of caring for hair extensions is to be aware of the products you use on your hair. A lot of products are damaging and can cause tangling and matting, but excessive use of products will also require more washing, and over-washing is a critical factor in clogging extensions. Be sure to flip your products over and search for sulfate-free and alcohol-free products. Being aware of the products you are using is a simple way to get more extended wear.
3. Minimize heat damage
Excessive use of heat causes damage to our natural hair, just as it can cause damage to all types of hair extensions. When heat is excessively applied, the hair becomes brittle, and split ends can occur. Unfortunately, once the damage is done to the extensions, products cannot fix the extensions. We highly recommend finding a heat protectant that you can use before straightening, blow-drying, or using a curling iron. We also highly recommend keeping the temperatures at a lower setting while trying to take a heat break a few times a week. We all love luscious locks and perfectly straight hair, but a natural look is also beautiful and a great idea when caring for extensions.
There’s no doubt that hair extensions give you the hair you’ve been dreaming of, but without proper care, they won’t last as long as you could have hoped. But by implementing these simple and easy tips, you can definitely increase their wear.
