How to Wash Your Hair Extensions
So your hair extensions are in and you are wondering how you are going to wash your full head of hair…
First things first girlfriend you can’t wash your extensions the same way you do your natural hair, especially if you want the extensions to remain smooth and silky!
Ideally you shouldn’t be washing your extension more than 2-3 times a week!
Step 1: Brush Away
Before you get your extensions wet, brush them out. This minimizes tangles and knots after washing. Regardless of the type of extensions you have, start brushing from the bottom and work your way up.
A wide-tooth comb or soft bristle brush will work the best!
Step 2: Shampoo Your Extensions
You should only wash your hair and extensions with lukewarm water. Once your extensions are wet, use 2 – 3 pumps of a sulfate-free shampoo to wash your hair.
Remember to be careful near your bonds or clips when washing and brushing!
After rinsing your hair, apply a sulfate-free conditioner from the middle to the ends of the hair. Be sure to avoid applying conditioner on the roots and near the bonds of the extensions!
Leave the conditioner on for at least 5 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes.
Step 3: Time to Air Dry
After you are done washing you want to make sure you squeeze out any excess water and let your hair and extensions air dry.
Remember if you are using any heat products you want to make sure you use a heat protection spray ALWAYS! Also try to use a low heat setting!
Step 4: Brush Time
Gently brush your hair once it’s dry – don’t forget to use the right tools. Brush the hair from the bottom and slowly work your way up. Now style away!
That’s it! This is your quick 4 step guide to washing your hair extensions! Remember to always be gentle no matter which step you are on! If you’re unsure about which products to use or have any questions about the wash process, reach out to your hairstylist!
