How to Get a Great Wax

How to Get a Great Wax

Did you know that waxing has become one of the top services provided by salons? We’re not shocked… There are few things in life as amazing as that freshly waxed, buttery soft feeling!

Waxing is a great, longer-lasting hair removal alternative. While it seems like a no brainer, it can be a super daunting experience for first timers and waxing pros, alike. So, we’ve put together a guide full of tips to make your next wax experience the best yet. If you’re considering booking an appointment, or you just want the scoop on how to make your results last, read on…

GROW OUT THE HAIR FOR YOUR FIRST WAX SERVICE

Allow your hair to grow for four weeks before your first appointment. Stay on this schedule until your esthetician advises you otherwise. When it comes to waxing, it’s not how long your hair is. It’s how long your hair has been growing that’s important.

THE FOUR WEEK RULE

Your goal is to be hair-free right? Let your hair grow for four weeks prior to waxing and then every four weeks until your Estheticianadvises you otherwise. Staying on a four-week schedule trains your hair to all grow in at the same time. Staying on schedule weakens your hair and it becomes thinner and weaker with each wax.

HAIR GROWTH PHASE

Waxing is excellent because it exfoliates the skin aiding in proper cell turnover and lessening skin pigmentations. You want to reach the hair growth phase before your appointment.

AVOID LOTIONS + BODY OILS

Avoid all lotions and oils on the day of your waxing appointment. These products will interfere with your waxing service, leaving a residue behind, which will not allow the wax to work properly.

EXFOLIATE

Exfoliation is the key to a great wax. It is recommended that you exfoliate at least 3 times per week & always lightly exfoliate on the day of your waxing appointment. We recommended using our Farmhouse Fresh body polish prior to your body waxing appointment.

SOFTER + SMOOTHER

Dead skin build-up will not allow the hair to pop through the top layer of the skin. Exfoliating away dead skin will allow the hair to be at the surface level and easier for the wax to grab on to. Do not exfoliate to the point where your skin is sore.

NUMB IT UP!

If you are nervous about your wax hurting, apply a topical numbing cream such as No-Scream Cream 45 minutes prior to your waxing appointment. No Scream Cream contains 20% benzocaine and will numb your skin and take the discomfort down an average of 50-80%. Follow the directions when using No Scream Cream. Not using it properly will diminish its effectiveness.

See? Waxing doesn’t have to be scary after all! We promise that you will never regret treating yourself to this life-saver of a service.
